About 2/3 of this loop (the trough road and blacktail road) encompasses a portion of the Divide Mountain Bike Route, but ridden in the opposite direction that most people ride it. Not advisable to ride this loop counterclockwise, as the 3,000-foot climb up County Road 14 to kick things off would be a killer with extremely steep gradients at the top.
Stuart, I rode this ride clockwise yesterday and I strongly advise against climbing County Rd 14. I am a glutton for punishment but between the grades and condition of that road, I think you would be doing a lot of hike a bike.
Jon,
I am thinking of riding the northern portion of this loop. Starting 2 miles north of Kremmling off Highway 40 and on to County Road 14 heading straight west to Highway 134. Looks like about 12 miles. Is this the section that is not advisable? Thanks
